The Gist
NPRR863 put the concepts of ERCOT Contingent Reserve Service (ECRS) and Fast Frequency Response (FFR, a subset of Responsive Reserve Service) into the ERCOT protocols, but was not implemented immediately. This project implements parts related to FFR. The main issue with this project, and why it is a separate topic, is that it significantly changed the interface between market participants and ERCOT, particularly creating the need for all RRS bids to declare whether they were RRS-UFR, RRS-FFR, or RRS-PFR. The market participants and their vendors in charge of creating interface systems were not enable to implement those changes on their side in a timely manner and this caused an implementation delay of ten months.

- 10/27/21 ERCOT hosts workshop announcing the implementation schedule.
- 11/3/21 Market Participants say that they and their vendors will not be able to get their systems ready in time for a December release and they need more time.
- 1/13/22 ERCOT announces that FFR Advancement will be delivered in release 5, scheduled for October 4th through 6th, 2022.
