The Gist
As part of the Phase 1 2021 Market Reform efforts of the PUC, ERCOT was directed to investigate (and eventually implement) a Voltage Support Service. At this point it is unclear what it will look like. ERCOT currently has protocol language to compensate resources for opportunity costs if they have to back down profitable generation to provide needed voltage support.
